During the event there were the typical baby shower games like coming up with baby words for every letter in the alphabet, and a baby food tasting contest.  There was also a chocolate tasting contest where the chocolate was melted in a diaper… yum.

Also there was the ultimate test of whether the baby is a boy or a girl.  The doctors with all their fancy ultrasound technology have nothing on this method.  Shibanee is supposed to choose a covered bowl that has a sweet inside.  If she chooses the peda (ball looking thing) its a boy.  If she chooses the burfi (square looking thing) its a girl.  You can watch the video for yourself to see what she picked.

And Finally the diaper game!

In the past couple of weeks Coco had started to have problems.  She stopped eating for a while, and lost a lot of weight.

On Wednesday October 7th Shibanee’s parents called to tell us that she is having difficulty breathing and that they were taking her to the vet.

We went to Thousand Oaks to visit and say our goodbye’s if needed.  She had cancer and pneumonia.  We decided to end her suffering that day.

She had lived 17 years and was blessed with good health her whole life.  In those seventeen years she was the best friend and companion to all the members of the family.

It was the first time any of us had to deal with anything like this.  Past companions had either been given away or died suddenly.

On a personal note, I was profoundly impacted by the event.  I watched as Coco slowly died in her sleep.  It is hard to get the image out of my head and my heart is very heavy from it all.  She was loved deeply by everyone around her and left the family in the same way she came into the family; in Shibanee and her mom’s arms.

With that I would like to take a moment to recognize the animals that are impacting our lives now.
